There is currently no perfect warning system that meets all needs, however, several are being used and they very from city to city.
In general, the news media (radio and television) is a good source that people turn to during times of an emergency.
As such, local officials try to use the media to get emergency information out to our citizens.
In addition to the media, all cities and counties may utilize the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to send emergency messages.
In many cases, local officials will utilize our outdoor warning sirens, local police and fire department personnel to help broadcast emergency warnings.
This method is usually used when there is an immediate need to move people quickly from a hazard and there is little time to use any other system.
