Community Pride Equipment Operator
Job Status:

Definition:
Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work, and operates a variety of equipment, in the collection solid wastes including front yard collection and alley clean-up as a part of Operation Community Pride bulky waste collection service.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Works under the immediate supervision of the Landfill Superintendent
Essential Job Functions
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Drives a collection vehicle over an assigned or designated route, picking up solid waste and bulky waste items, including recyclables and yard waste as assigned with a collection vehicle, and depositing them into the prescribed area.
Makes special collections as assigned.
Notes variances to the prescribed service.
Maintains radio or other communications with the office to receive or report variances to standard operations.
Conducts a daily inspection of tire air pressure, hydraulic pressure, air tanks, hydraulic fluids, power steering fluids, transmission fluids, lights, and other critical parts of a solid waste collection vehicle prior to the execution of the daily tasks.
Observes surrounding conditions such as citizens, equipment, property, etc. in order to assure that solid waste is collected in a safe manner; regulates traffic in hazardous conditions in order to assure safety conditions for the collection personnel and general public.
Drives vehicle to a sanitary landfill, recycle or compost facility and unloads collection vehicle.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor: cleans equipment.
Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, collection activity, ets.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Climbs in and out of bed and tank on collection vehicles.
Required to help prepare landfill for TCEQ inspections as needed.
Required to drive relief sanitation routes as needed.
Required to work additional hours during weather related events, disasters and State Inspections.
Peripheral Duties
Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Desired Minimal Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Some knowledge of equipment, methods and procedures used in solid waste and recyclables collection activities.
- Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work safely; Ability o establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Special Requirements
Valid State of Texas Driver's license and CDL certification, or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
Tools and Equipment Used
Motorized vehicles and equipment, including knuckle boom truck, packer truck, recycling collection truck, utility truck with trailer, brush truck, hydraulic lifts, common hand and power tools, wrenches, mobile or portable radio, GPS equipment and cell phone.
Selection Guidelines
Formal application, rating of education an experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required.
